ENGLISH

A Spectrum pastiche shamelessly AI coded, and shamelessly inspired by SABRE WULF and ATIC ATAC from the legendary ULTIMATE PLAY THE GAME.

Story inside the game!

Keep an eye on your health and stamina. You can check their status on both sides of your old pocket watch.

When hunger strikes, you can eat any junk — but don't say you weren't warned.

Rest to recover stamina. But don't stay still for too long — the boogeyman is coming.

Drink water from wells to fully restore your health and stamina. It will also reverse any toxic effect from the s**t you may have eaten. But beware: any active power-up effect will be washed out as well.

Although you are free to get lost exploring the world, the game is linear. You must reach the objectives in sequence. To find your way, you have three items at your disposal:

  • The default compass will always be available. But it only points toward the next objective — it doesn't tell you how to get there through the world's layout.
  • The magic compass does show you which exact path to take to reach the next objective. But its effect doesn't last long.
  • A map that you will find randomly thorugh the game. Be quick every time you pick it up, the wind carries it away fast!

You have unlimited time. But every passing day the creatures and monsters will become faster and more aggresive.

Good luck, and finish it, will you!

Nice game, even though there doesn't seem to be any discernible objective. Our German-language review can be found at 01:09:19. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

this looks banging!

When I load this game, I see a lot of ULA snow. I am using a Sinclair 128K + to load it.

Sorry for the delay. I was able to reproduce the bug in RetroVirtualMachine (I don't have access to real hardware). There is a new .tap (1.1), it may work now. Please find the details in the devlog. Thank you!

Thank you for this, here is my tribute...

Thank you Mr Gentelmen for playing and posting and uploading your video. Appreciated!

I thought this game was absolutely brilliant! Took me right back to the days of Sabre Wulf, which I didn't complete at the time, but as someone else said, with very generous replenishment, as I was never far from food/water to top me up.

The random item generators did get on my nerves a bit (in a good way?) when I wanted an extra life or a 'direction arrow' but got a hindering thing instead which sent me in opposite directions or just made me go slowly, but while I did save snapshots along the way, I never had to use them, and despite starting playing this very late, I inadvertently completed it, as I didn't want to stop.

I see the dev has a brief devlog on his site, but if anyone makes an AI game again, I'd love to see the process detailed in a video. I can't program a computer to save my life, despite trying to do it at Uni, but then I never understood C++ which came up a lot at the time.

AI can be used as a brilliant tool, as it has been here with this game, so to any naysayers, don't lump this in with 'AI slop'. I've only left out the AI mention in my video's description, because Youtube employs bots to get the wrong end of stick and nuke anything 'AI' these days.

Thanks so much for your words! They mean a lot to me. Also congratulations for finishing the game and thank you for posting a complete walkthrough. To be honest I never expected anyone going through the full game, because I my self find it too mazy. I couldn't complete Sabre Wulf back in the day until the map of the world was published in a magazine. Hopefully the aids make it a little easier. Thanks again for everyting, best of lucks!

Thank you Czas for your support! Just suscribed to your channel

How do you make it in AI? That'd be good to make a video about.

Good idea! Unfortunately my video capture and editing skills are non-existent. Directing AI for coding is easy, you just have to be as specific as you can, and have lots of patience. There is a devlog here, may it be of your interest.

Very nice game!

Thank you for you support! Best regards

Love it. Great fun to play and the changing elements really add interest

Thank you DF, glad you like it! The game mechanics are simple, but i tried to compensate with variation in content. Regards!

Gracias otra vez!

Great game

Thanks for the video!!! (Suscribed and liked btw ;)

Thank you

Hi, I added your video to the game main page, hope you don't mind, if you do, I will remove no prob. Thanks!

This is superb Jaydriod. Can you give more info about how this was made? You say Ai coded - surely Ai didn't code all this?

Thank you Stone! I am glad you liked it. I am planning to make the git repo public. Indeed, I didnt write a single line of code. I am not a programmer, Claude code on one side, VS Code on the other, Lots of custom tools (html Claude coded too) for design and export sprites and rooms, even for tuning sounds and music. When I needed a tool, I asked the AI to make it for me. And then finetuning. Loooots of back and forth. I will link the repo soon, after some house cleaning. Thanks again!

Git repo public now (below in the description of the game. https://github.com/Jay-droid133/tharkys-the-knightThanks!
